John,
First, Army policy currently prohibits Macs from joining the Active
directory, and the settings they are using, prevent it without admit Mac.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no Army policy requiring Macs to
disconnect from the network. As part of the Army's active directory
migration, they will have changed two authentication settings. If you were
previously using Outlook for Mac to access your email you will not be able
to do that anymore. If they are using exchange server 2000, or higher, you
should be able to use Entourage.
The guidance below, from Netcom, may be useful.

FOR WIDE DISTRIBUTION
It has come to my attention that several DOIMs and/or RCIO/FCIOs have issued
guidance that Apple OS based computers must be disconnected from Army
networks as a result of Active Directory deployment and NETCOM guidance.
This is not correct. Neither NETCOM or the CIO/G6 has issued guidance
requiring removal of Apple OS based computers from Army networks, nor has
any Army guidance been issued that requires placement of Apple OS based
computers in protected enclaves.
Apple OS based computers must comply with the requirements of the local
accreditation authority.
NETCOM has assessed the Apple OS X 10.3 operating system and determined it
is acceptable for new acquisitions where the Army needs a UNIX based user
workstation. We have not approved the OS X platform as a common
replacement for the Windows XP platform at this time. We are aggressively
working with Apple corporation to resolve the few remaining technical
impediments to allowing the OS X platform as an alternative common user
workstation to the XP platform.
Apple OS based computers are not, at this time, permitted to connect to
Active Directory. This is also being addressed with Apple corporation and
it is expected that the next version of OS X will address most, if not all,
interoperability issues with Active Directory.
Use of the Apple OS X platform with Virtual PC and XP is approved.
NETCOM will be preparing instructions on how to connect the XP hosted OS to
Active Directory. Until this guidance is published, connection of the
hosted XP OS to Active Directory is not recommended.
Technical POC for this message is MICHAEL D. BOMBA , DIRECTOR OF
OPERATIONAL ENGINEERING NETCOM/ESTA.
