I'm messing around with AppleScript to try and create a simple
application to back up MySQL via MySQLDump.. I can shell out and do
all that good stuff just fine.
But what I want to do is have the Apple Script prompt for a
destination directory (like open a save dialog), and the user selects
what folder they want it in.
I then want to copy the contents of the mysql-dump file (which is
placed in /tmp/mysqldump.sql, and all the files in
/Library/WebServer/Documents/xsys, copy them to a folder in
/tmp/xsysbackup.
then, finally, create a zip with both the .sql dump and the contents
of /tmp/xsysbackup and stick it in the folder they defined. (it
sounds way more complicated than it is).
The end result is doing a MySQL dump (which I call from a bash script
I already wrote), copying the contents of the /lib/webserver/xsys dirc
to tmp (which I already did via bash), and making a zip.. then copying
that zip to wherever they want... I'm basically just trying to back up
MySql.
Has anyone done this before I try to take it on my own?
I'm just executing scripts which is easy enough, but I do not know how
to make an Apple script prompt for a Folder where I can store
something.
I can do it all with Bash, but users freak out at the thought of a
terminal window... I could use RB but it takes a LOT of work to do
MySQL commands through RB.
any help appreciated (code samples or otherwise). If you attach to
the email, the dev-list will filter it, so you can email me directly
at this address.
