FYI. This is not an Apple tool and is not supported by Apple but might
be of interest to some of you.
As I said when I first released this tool: necessity is truly the
mother of invention.
I got tired of wrangling with various support issues and having to
tell "Mr. English Teacher and Part Time Server Administrator" how to
use the terminal to collect the various log files, etc. that I would
need to start diagnosing a problem.
After a significant amount of wrangling and testing, I've decided to
post the latest revision of the Collector to my iDisk (sabarber).
There have been some changes:
New Features
- Additional reports and data collection, especially for servers
- Better organization of report items within the dmg file
- Mousing over a report item describes the items to be collected
- DMGs are now gzipped for better compression and e-mail friendliness
Problems Fixed
- DNS Forward and Reverse lookup now works properly
- Getting a report from a CPU with a dirty HFS+ journal no longer
results in a corrupted DMG file
As a reminder, if you launch the app with the command key held down,
you can create a custom report (including additional commands and
files) and save your settings so that you can e-mail a "customized"
version of the app to someone to get the data you need.
Enjoy and as always your feedback is welcomed...
Scott
