Extensive discussion on Slashdot, basically could mean anything
including but not limited to wireless chips, bridge chips, etc., but
not likely Potato Chips.
[Also see article on Hitachi converting all its corporate desktops and
laptops to thin clients. Alas, I fear this is the future of DoD]
Not a very bright future. When NARA 2 was built (National Archives
and Records Administration) they made all the PC's into thin clients,
all applications and files exist on a bank of central Sun servers.
The system is called ICASS, it was not very long before some user
realized that that stood for "I Can't Access the Stupid System"
Michael
scenario goes something like this:
"Houston we have a problem"
"Sorry, Apollo, you're on your own, the central server is down"
Alternative scenario is DoD learns to build like the Borg and
everything is decentralized, i.e. they took 75% damage and they keep
coming. What ARPANET was meant to be.
