Either NetMinder Ethernet or EtherPeek are professional grade utilities that are suitable for analysis of commercial products and or commercial product development.
Recommend NetMinder Ethernet. EtherPeek is also an excellent application but significantly more expensive.
NetMinder Ethernet (also handles wireless)
EtherPeek (wireless costs extra)
I personally use NetMinder. Best Regards, Wm. Cerniuk

Even when I have ethereal (installed via fink or darwin ports) I normally capture to a file with tcpdump, then view in ethereal. Also, watch out for all the udp traffic if you are on a large windows network! tcpdump "not udp" should drop that traffic. And don't capture in promiscuous mode, either.
