It's the Restore to Alternate location that does not function. Lots of
people have had the problem on the .Mac backup forum, and Apple said
they are working on a fix.
Personally, I find it just as easy to open the package contents and pull
out what I need, but a lot of users won't be able to figure that out (at
least from what I can tell).

I just tested this and it worked. It does take a long time though. I
thought the process was hung but just let it go and it worked. Time
to submit an "enhancement" at http://bugreport.apple.com
