The only Windows XP SP 2 media I had handy was the MSDN release which
is a bootable DVD. I had to run applejack in single user mode to
clear out a couple of glitches on my drive that DiskUtility wouldn't
fix. There were 2 corrupt entries on my PowerBook hard drive that
moved over to my MacBook Pro when I did the "target" install.
AppleJack took care of the problem on both the Powerbook and the
Macbook.
Then I tried to install with the MSDN DVD containing XP Pro. The DVD
drive booted just fine, but the firmware wasn't smart enough to let
me use the keyboard to enter the letter to select XP Pro from the
choices list on the DVD. I tried installing with XP Pro SP 1 and
then doing the SP 2 upgrade, but ran into problems there. SP1
installed fine, but the Apple drivers wouldn't install. Also, the SP
2 upgrade CD wouldn't install. For some reason the SP 2 installer
thought i was short 4 mb of space on my 12BG partition.
I did find a Dell distribution CD for XP Pro with SP2 that installed
just fine.
