Ok.... here's the deal... we've totally replaced all the Windows
machines in our healthcare division with iMac 20, iMac 24 and Mac
Minis (and it's a beautiful thing).... at first, we were just having
account and user information stored and managed locally on the
workstation machine, with an admin account on each workstation... now
that we have 30+ users, it is no longer practical, and we want to take
advantage of the managed OS X updates, etc that OS X server
provides...
We have an AD controller... we do NOT want to use that. We want our
own user authentication and we want no rights given to AD at all....
this is for HIPAA reasons... if Windows AD gets hacked, we want our OS
X to maintain our own user databases... so in essence it is a stand
alone directory server.
Is there a quick and dirty guide on how to set up a workstation mac to
authenticate against an OS X user database?
For example, we keep our users on our XSERVE using Workgroup manager,
as a stand alone controller... how do we get the workstation macs to
use the XSERVE for user authentication?
I seem to remember using Directory Access in the Utilities folder...
but for the life of me I cannot get a remote Mac to use the OS X
Server for user account authentication!
Any ideas appreciated! thanks!
Mike
