Gentlemen,
My name is Seth Wright, I'm a tech at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense command. My CIO has tasked me to find a solution for getting logged in to our domain using a MacBook Pro and a CAC reader. I have installed 3rd party software (AdmitMac for CAC) from Thursby Software. I read Thursby's entire configuration and administration guides while configuring the laptop and followed every detail. After repeat attempts at trial and error, I finally contacted Thursby's developers and requested their assistance. I created a log file using one of their utilities and I am awaiting a response. It definitely has been a learning experience so far. Out of the box, the MacBook would not recognize a standard SCM 331 card reader, I had to first flash the firmware to version 5.18 on the reader using ActiveCard Gold Utilities on my PC before the Mac would even recognize the card reader. There are not a lot of resources available to help troubleshoot the CAC issue.

Lawrence,
I am the Manager for the DoD Team at Apple. I would like to have some of the technical guys address your needs, more on a one to one basis instead of talking generically on this talk list.
I have several concerns from your email. Please forward me the emails you sent to our security guys so I will have the time and nature of the emails. I will personally follow up with them.
Please feel free to contact any of the Army team directly with any questions.
Nate

Nate,
two things that would be a huge help to DOD/IC customers would be:
1. having an embedded smart card reader in all Macs especially in the laptops.
2. working with Microsoft to get Entourage to support CAC authentication when connecting to Exchange Webmail servers.
