I always like to check out www.ramseeker.com, as it is mostly vendor
neutral and lists the best price by model for that day...

For the small difference in price, you should make sure you buy RAM
from someone who offers a lifetime guarantee for use in Apples.
(The usual suspects offer these guarantees.) Not only does RAM
fail (I've had to replace failed RAM often enough that it isn't
rare any more), but sometimes "Apple-certified" memory doesn't
survive firmware upgrades (that's also happened to me too often).
When a firmware update causes old RAM to stop working, the
guarantee gets a you a replacement.

I am looking into upgrading RAM on a G5 iMac. As usual the RAM
recommended by the usual suppliers is always significantly more
expensive than what is available for PCs.
I am looking for 1 GB PC3200 unbuffered non-parity 184-pin 400 MHz
DDR
SDRAM
Is that because :
a) the specs on Mac compatible memory are better (i.e. faster)
b) the cheaper RAM is low quality and potentially unreliable
c) it is just a way to get more money from people who are ignorant of
the issues
