I don't know who you mean by the usual suppliers - but Mac ram and PC
ram are the same - as long as you meet the required specs you are fine.
Some recommended places are -
www.crucial.com - pretty much the gold standard
www.macsales.com - OWC has decent prices for ram
www.transintl.com - also good prices
Once you do the upgrade - run the full Hardware Test Disk that came with
the machine - It will verify the new ram is error free.

Subject: [Fed-Talk] RAM for Mac
I am looking into upgrading RAM on a G5 iMac. As usual the RAM
recommended by the usual suppliers is always significantly more
expensive than what is available for PCs.
I am looking for 1 GB PC3200 unbuffered non-parity 184-pin 400 MHz DDR
SDRAM
Is that because :
a) the specs on Mac compatible memory are better (i.e. faster)
b) the cheaper RAM is low quality and potentially unreliable
c) it is just a way to get more money from people who are ignorant of
the issues
