Doug,
As the happy recipient of the attentions of the best Apple staff I've
ever encountered (I love you Apple Store at the Eastview Mall in
Victor, NY), it sounds like you are being misinformed or scammed...
in both cases, I'd ask to speak to the Manager and also send a note
to Apple Corporate.
Better yet, buy your RAM from Crucial at a rock bottom price and
install it yourself for free. Crucial will still run you a few
hundred or more for 2 gig.

Hi All,
Couple of questions. The Annapolis, Md., Apple Store says that
Apple software is not eligible for the Federal discount in the
store, that it must be ordered online. Is this true, or does the
store's personnel need some training?
Also, they wanted to charge $600 to upgrade a new 20" iMac to 2GB
RAM at the time of purchase, while online Apple only charges around
$260. What gives? Are they really ripping people off that much in
the stores? (We won't even talk about the "oh well, that's just the
way it is, take it or leave it" attitude of one of the sales people
there).
