Hello Ryan,
I experienced similar crashes using OS X 10.4.3 and 10.4.4. Please look
at the attached document under "Setting Up Thunderbird" steps d and e.
That resolved the problem for me. I'd be interested in knowing if it
works for you.

Subject: [Fed-Talk] 64K CAC and (Mozilla or FireFox or Netscape)
Howdy:
I am having trouble getting my 64K CAC working with FireFox, Mozilla,
or Netscape (all Mach-O) working with the pkcs11 library
(/usr/libexec/SmartCardServices/pkcs11/pkcs11.bundle/Contents/MacOS/
pkcs11). FireFox (Mozilla, Netscape) will crash when it attempts to
load the module.
I am however able to use my CAC with apps that support Keychain.
Also, older CACs (32k?) do not exhibit the problem. I am using an
ActivCard USB Reader v2.0 and 10.4.5.
Other people have mentioned this problem, but I haven't seen any
resolutions:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/fed-talk/2006/Feb/msg00057.html
http://lists.apple.com/archives/fed-talk/2005/Nov/msg00111.html
I have filed a bug in Apple's bug reporter database (#4497350),
though I have no idea if it is OS X problem or if the blame lies
elsewhere.
Thanks for any pointers,
Ryan
