Yes, but there is also analog input/output on the back.

Tried that... no dice. By default, the Mac should disable the
internal speaker when external ones are plugged in (as it does when
plugged in to the front of the machine)... since it is not disabling
the speaker, I am wondering if it might be a bad jack on the MacPro.

Seems that an appropriate click in the Sound preferences (System

should let you designate source and target for sound.

Subject: [Fed-Talk] MacPro question
Just got my Quad 3.0GHZ MacPro.... very, VERY, very, VERY fast....
works great with 30 inch display... infact, now my 20 inch intel
imac
seems inadequate, and i used to think the display on it was huge!
Anyhow, I've run into a glitch, and am hoping someone on here may be
able to help me.
I've got JBL Creature speakers for it... when plugging them into the
back of the MacPro (speaker out jack)... the internal MacPro speaker
is still used, and the external ones get no noise.
However, if I put the speakers in the front jack for headphones, it
mutes the MacPro and works fine through the speakers.
I can't believe Apple would make us hook up external speakers
through
the front of the MacPro... does anyone have any suggestions on
what I
need to do to use the rear jack?
Thanks,
mike
