Sean:
Just for clarification, I wasn't the one having the problem, I wrote
the quick and dirty fix and Dave was voicing his opinion on how people
should not run software from anonymous websites...
But on your other issue with the power, we've notice the same thing.
We even had one machine have to go back to the Apple dealer for a
"hard logic board reset".. whatever that is.
Right now we have a policy in place that we are not upgrading any
machines to 10.4.9. I did upgrade my MacBook Pro and after some
initial kernel panics (which are rare) it seems to be pretty stable
now. But the minis we have and the iMac 24's do not mix with 10.4.9
at all, therefore we have not upgraded them and won't until the issues
like you talk about are resolved.

Dave, I don't know you personally so this isn't a judgment of your
character, but your comments are coming off (to me anyway) as very
condescending. You've spent more time and energy criticizing Mike
than helping him with his problem. I'm feeling apprehensive about
posting what I'm about to now (which is unfortunate) but I'm going to
anyway [Flame-proof suit: ON]:
I'm having problems with several of my machines and the machines I
support not being able to wake up after being put to sleep. The only
way to get them back is to hold down the power key and reboot. This
started after the 10.4.9 update and I've seen lots of traffic on
several posts in Apple's forum discussions about this pretty much
confirming my belief that the 10.4.9 update is causing the problem.
Is anyone else noting this?
I'm not one to speculate, but is it possible that the OS X engineers
are stretched a bit too thin over at Apple? It seems like Q&A has
dropped a bit.
