Well, I've worked on a variety of products that contain encryption
capabilities, and I so far in my experience it's the non-US
governments (such as France and Australia) that demand back doors.
Once the ITAR restrictions on key length were lifted many years ago,
my interactions with the USG have only concerned making sure that the
protections are strong enough to be certified (FIPS 140 and DITSCAP).
My impression is that, at least in general, law enforcement
authorities rely more on things like the threat of jail time than on
technical measures.
