You're all making this too hard. You don't need a directory service,
just plain old Unix groups and chmod.

CLI Command methods for managing:
dscl - Directory Service command line utility
dseditgroup - Group record manipulation tool
You could also install Admin Tools on the Client and manage this using
Workgroup manager against the local directory.
