Allan,
It was indeed both a hack and suggested...for 10.4. With 10.5, the
AuthPlugin approach to displaying the Banner is the suggested method
and will indeed be referred to in the 10.5 Security Guide... not
modifying the loginwindowtext as was done on 10.4

I have opened an issue with Apple enterprise support on the 256

Workaround 1: Hack the startup background image. New instructions

Leopard are here (changed since Tiger):

(The new plist hack described near the end of this thread doesn't
work for me).
or the short version here:
http://leopardtips.blogspot.com/2007/11/change-leopard-startup-image.html
Really short version: Use an image editor like Photoshop to place
your
login banner text into this image:
/System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
I just tried the short version on Leopard, worked fine.
Advantage: Users don't need to scroll through the text, text stays
on
screen a few extra seconds during login.
Disadvantage: You need to play with text placement to avoid the
login
window at various screen resolutions.
I'm certain this method is just as unsupported by Apple as the old
plist hack.
YMMV.

Hello,
So we have been using the com.apple.loginwindow.plist
LoginwindowText for
our banner and it's worked great for 10.3 and 10.4.
So I went to test our Banner on 10.5, it came up short in the
loginwindow.
I appears that the text field now only displays 6 lines of text.
Well short
of our required text.
I was just wondering if others have noticed this as well?
Thanks,
