IMHO, the key take away from the iPhone keynote is: "Don't enter into
a long-term contract with a cellular dealer for any phone for the
next six months until you have had a chance to see/try the iPhone."
I think there was more that was "not said" about the iPhone than was,
and I suspect what finally comes out of the pipeline in June will be
different than what was shown this week. For example, my current
iPod with video has a 60 Gig hard drive -- I can't image an iPhone
with just 8 Gigs (which includes the OS) will be very useful for
video. At a minimum I expect to see a thicker iPhone that supports a
hard drive and larger battery.
Other issues: Will you be able to turn the iPhone on without turning
on the phone signal so you can use it for video while on a plane?
What will be the model for independent software developers to create
new features/services? Will there be a version with a slide-out
keyboard (Apple recently filed a patent for a version of this) for
heavy email/SMS users? Will you be able to buy an iPhone without a
cell phone contract (e.g., just use WiFi and Skype or audio iChat)?
Will there be a version with a camera lens on the same side of the
display so you can participate in video iChats?
