Securing Windows Sharing
Windows sharing allows users to access shared files and printers by using
the SMB/CIFS
protocol. You should not enable Windows sharing, because there are
well-known risks
associated with SMB/CIFS. For example, SMB/CIFS uses NTLMv1 and NTLMv2
encryption, both of which are very weak password hashing schemes.
When you enable Windows sharing, Mac OS X describes the dangers associated
with
SMB/CIFS.
I'm wondering what the corresponding guide for Windows 2003 says about this.
This would be the LAN Manager Authentication Level.
