I for one am glad to see that someone high up in the government is using Apple (senators). You have no idea the crap we have to go through to get something in IHS. And the thing is it's just IHS! HHS, NIH, all the others have no problems getting Mac, so that says something about the people calling the shots in IHS I guess, because it doesn't stop at Mac, they put up BS boundaries for everything productive. I put my career on the line for Apple in IHS, and ultimately got my ass handed back to me with a brand on it... thankfully I do not have to deal with that anymore. I did get to meet some great people in Apple because of IHS though, and for that I will always be thankful and cherish that moment (well two different occasions) I got to meet and talk with Steve Jobs. If I die tomorrow, I can say I had a pretty good life.
Someone in the Senate should contact IHS and "lean on them" a bit :)

I concurred with Dave.
For this reason I have created U.S. Senate Certified Apple Intel-Based Templates with Hardware Specific (i.e., iMac 17 "-24 ", MacBook Pro 2.0-2.33GHz Intel Core Duo, MacBook Pro 2.0-2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and Mac Pro.)
As a good example of Mac Book Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, I have utilized Base Image for all of MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo lines; 15" – 17" and 2.0 GHz – 2.33 GHz, but you can not restore it's image to Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo.
That said, iMac, MacBook Pro Intel Core 2Duo and Mac Pro are working same methods to restores image from External FireWire HD to be imaging for new Apple computer w/ Hardware Specifics.
BTW, I have been exclusively utilizing Apple Disk Utility, External FireWire HD and Unix command with Apple Terminal for creating the Apple Image.

Mike,
If you image the latest hardware you have then you basically have an
universal image that is backwards compatible. Best practices for
imaging say to have one image for portables and one for desktops
though in my experience I have not seen a case yet where a single
image built off the latest hardware/software release did not work on
all previous models of that architecture.
