If you carry a PDA, Cellphone in to our office, it had better be off.
IF you turn it on and connect, regardless of wireless, Bluetooth, what
ever, then it is MINE. I love new electronics.
That is how it is handled in this office.

This may be premature, but since iPhone will be running the [Mac] OS
X operating system with WiFi, full email, full web client, etc., has
anyone looked into issues regarding using them in government facilities?
It seems that many of the issues must have already been addressed
with other smart phones.
Thanks,
Todd

The iPhone has a camera does it not? Any facility prohibiting
cameras or cell phones with cameras would be off limits to someone
carrying an iPhone. Some of those facilities are in locations were I
would not leave a $600 camera in a parked car outside the gates.
Then there is the whole issue about health clubs, etc.
What other issues exist for cell phones and smart phones? There is
a whole spectrum of abilities on phones, from the full set in the
iPhone to the bare minimum phone. A basic phone can easily have not
only text messaging but also Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, and other instant
messaging.
Some facilities officially prohibit two-way radios, but permit cell
phones, the logic escapes me.

According to the (Computerworld) <http://www.computerworld.com/> -
Hackers
can attack Mac OS X by exploiting an unpatched vulnerability in the
open-source Samba file- and print-sharing software that is included with
the
OS, Symantec Corp. said today.
Samba, which is enabled when Mac users turn on the Windows Sharing
feature
that allows Microsoft Corp.
Customers to access files and printers on a Mac network, was pegged with
multiple heap-based buffer overflow bugs earlier this month.
The Mac OS X doesn't turn on Samba by default, Macs that share a network
with Windows PCs could be at risk, Symantec warned.
Because Apple has not released a Samba update since 2005
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301061> , users must
upgrade
to the latest, and secure version, themselves.
"Mac OS X users are advised to download and install the latest version
of
Samba 3.0.25 from the Samba Web site <http://www.samba.org/> said
Symantec.
"If this is not possible, the Windows Sharing service should be disabled
until Apple issues an official update via the Software Update service."
