Looking for input.
In an effort to improve my Institutes existing Disaster Recovery setup I have been give the green light to purchase a duplicate hardware setup to be placed in an offsite location.
We are talking two loaded Xraid's hooked to a small Qlogic fiber switch with two xserve dirhost's, the second for failover, for both the production site and the remote DR site.
1. Is there any enterprise level product designed for the Mac to perform asynchronis replication between the two sites or duplication across the wire?
2. Does it make sense to perform a sync or just simply a one way transfer to the remote site?
3. Can G5 xserve's and Intel Xserve's be mixed in an IP failover setup in either location or am I better sticking with similar boxes across the board?
I realize that this is a great selling point for a SAN or even Apple's Xsan but the cost to implement this would give my Windows centric managers a heart attack. They have already balked at springing for Fiber switches and feel like iSCSI is almost a second class option.
What are others doing with regards to offsite DR when it comes to Mac storage and servers?
Thanks,
Britt Dennis
