If it's on the computer itself, it's not the one that came with it.
The only one that works on Intel-based Macs is the one that comes on
the installation DVD associated with the computer. If you've got
something on the hard disk, it's probably the older, PowerPC/Open
Firmware-only version of the tool that got downloaded at some point.

Did it get replaced in an update along the way at some point? As far
as I know, that is the version that came with the computer.

You need to use the version of the application that came on the
installation DVD for that computer.

Sorry about the the last post. Forgot to change the Subject line.
Anyone know how to get the open firmware application working in
10.4.10, on Intel MacBook Pro 17" purchased within the last couple
of
months? Each time I launch the application from utilities, I am
getting the error message
"Your firmware is too old.
The firmware on your machine is too old for Open Firmware Password
to
function. You will need 4.1.7 or later to use this application.
Please visit the Apple website to get the latest firmware update for
your system."
I looked in System Profiler and my firmware settings are as follows:
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B02
SMC Version: 1.18f2
I looked in Apple support online, and there is no more recent
firmware, and I am not sure why the error says 4.1.7.
Thanks.
