That's fine to have an opinion. Mine is that it should be a little
more intelligent and not copy the Apple items that are useless. Not
saying worry about every little app, but Apple knows which ones they
wrote, and could do a verify for those. Makes it difficult to
remember these little things. They could even do a check during
Software update to see if a different version is required. Yes you
are correct, I do remember copying the thing from the DVD in the
past. And, I won't comment on this any further.

It wouldn't have gotten "replaced", because the app is not
installed at all by default. It's probably just the other one that
came over, and since the migration brings any apps that don't
already exist on the installation, things like your old Open
Firmware Password application come over, whether they work or not.
(And to expand on this a bit, I don't think the migration should do
anything differently: its job is just to bring things over that
don't already exist. Since the utility isn't part of the new
install, the old one got brought over.)

Unless, when I migrated my old PowerBook to the new MacBook Pro,
the app got replaced. Hmmmm, not good if that's the case.

Did it get replaced in an update along the way at some point? As
far as I know, that is the version that came with the computer.

You need to use the version of the application that came on the
installation DVD for that computer.

Sorry about the the last post. Forgot to change the Subject line.
Anyone know how to get the open firmware application working in
10.4.10, on Intel MacBook Pro 17" purchased within the last
couple of
months? Each time I launch the application from utilities, I am
getting the error message
"Your firmware is too old.
The firmware on your machine is too old for Open Firmware
Password to
function. You will need 4.1.7 or later to use this application.
Please visit the Apple website to get the latest firmware
update for
your system."
I looked in System Profiler and my firmware settings are as
follows:
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B02
SMC Version: 1.18f2
I looked in Apple support online, and there is no more recent
firmware, and I am not sure why the error says 4.1.7.
Thanks.
