Well some here will say absolutely not, Macs are immune to all viruses.
You should take that with a grain of salt. However the chance of an
unprotected Mac getting infected with a virus is quite remote, and for
one behind a firewall it's even remoter, but anyone who says it's
impossible is being foolish. The biggest danger, which is still rather
unlikely, is that you might pass on an infected email, or document,
without your own machine getting infected, but also without removing the
malware that might infect someone else. From your email address, you
appear to be an Army Civilian employee which means you can use antivirus
software under the DOD contract on your home computer, and there are a
few open source ones that you can also use without charge. I don't
very often hear people say kind things about Symantec AV for Mac but we
run it on all the government owned Macs here, and I don't recall the
last time we had a problem with it.
So I guess the answer is maybe.

I'm new to Macs, new to the list, and getting a Macbook Pro for my home.
Is there a requirement to run antivirus programs (Symantec, etc.) on our
home Macs to keep from passing virii to our work machines or is the
firewall I already have installed at home good enough?
Thanks.
Paul
