On OS X it's a little more complicated than that. :/
Folks looking to leverage this kind of solution should keep a few
specifics in mind:
* This is accessible only via PKCS#11
* Only PKCS#11 Applications will be able to use it (i.e. Firefox)
-- NOT Apple Applications
* PKCS#11 on Mac OS X 10.4 / 10.5 is not integrated into Smart Card
Services / KeyChains
RedHat provides a Coolkey tokend as part of the ESC smartcard
manager, which moots your objections. :)
It's a little buggy on OS X as yet but it's coming along.
Also, Thursby provides a CAC tokend for OS X. At one point Paul had
it available free of charge.
