Does anyone know if Tiger has a simple command line encryption
tool that I can use to encrypt and decrypt a file?
Did not see anyone answer your question above, so here goes...
You can, ironically, use the 'security' tool for this... "/usr/
bin/security" and leverage the 'cms' (Cryptographic Message
Syntax) option.
I ended up using openssl (which must be near the record for number of
options that can be applied to the command):
To encrypt a file:
$ openssl des3 -salt < file.plain_text > file.enc
To decrypt the file:
$ openssl des3 -d -salt < file.enc > file.plain_text
I just hope that in 17 years from now I will be able to decrypt it
(Yes. About a year ago I needed to decrypt a file that was about that
old, and I had to start wracking my brains: What OS was I using? What
encrypt command did I use? Can I find the same decryption algorithm
on a modern OS? Good heavens, what was the password?). Encryption is
a terrible thing.
