The BETA kit does have a "CCID Driver Update" package on it that will fix
the Oberthur card problem. You don't need to install the AFC kit. This
package is only intended as an UNSUPPORTED short term solution until Apple
fixes the driver. I doubt this will be fixed in 10.5.2...
The patch installs a version that will just get overwritten by some future
system update from Apple. You won't have to uninstall anything...
