Remember: A FIPS cert doesn't mean it does key management correctly.
It means they didn't screw up the cipher.
Also remember: Fingerprints are easily spoofed, and you'll never know
I lifted one from you.

You may want to talk with MXI Security about their Stealth MXP
family of flash drives and Outbacker hard drives. They're using FIPS
140-2 validated hardware encryption and have the option of
supporting both biometric authentication, password authentication or
both (two-factor authentication.)
Stealth MXP: http://www.mxisecurity.com/?p=products&i=stealth_mxp
Outbacker: http://www.mxisecurity.com/?p=products&i=outbacker_mxp
They're listed on NIST's website for FIPS 140-1 and -2 validation,
as entry #777: http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/1401val2007.htm
If you or a colleague are at WWDC this week and you want to take a
look at the hardware, drop me a private message as I've got a
Stealth MXP thumb drive and Outbacker hard drive with me.
Thanks,
Rich

Greetings all,
Does anyone have a recommendation for USB thumb drives with
hardware-based encryption? My boss has asked me to choose a secure
thumb drive to issue to all the users in our office (an all-mac
environment).
So far my research has turned up only one product offering any sort
of Mac support. That's the IronKey, which unfortunately still has
to be initially set up on a Windows machine.
Kensington's Traveller series, Imation's Pivot Plus, and Sandisk's
Cruiser Enterprise are all Windows-only offerings.
Unfortunately, the IT director has put his foot down about the
hardware-based encryption requirement. Has anyone here set up an
IronKey through Parallels? My experience with USB devices when
using it has been rather hit-or-miss, so I'm a little leery of
ordering some up and then being unable to configure them! Oh, I
almost forgot....biometrics are off the table as well (due to
issues I can't discuss here).
Thanks,
