I'll echo the sentiments of the negative feedback. If you still
happen to have a PPC machine Excel is agonizingly slow and tends to
crash (at least for me) on seemingly benign files where-as Excel 2004
will open the same file just fine. Of course my results may be on the
fringe due to the system I am running it on.
MacMini 1.25 GHz PPC/ 1GB Ram, OS X 10.4.11. Dunno. I punted and went
back to Office 2004. I also tried iWork but it was just as slow on my
PPC hardware. I am sure on the latest machines with 2GB RAM all these
issues may go away.

Actually, the best thing about Office 2008 is the major upgrade to the
Entourage database. It is no longer so fragile and prone to meltdown

much
better now also.

Hi Bob-
Yes, it is quite a bit different (unless you're using
Entourage - which seems like a new set of icons and that's
about it...grumble...). Though, I do like it. I think Excel
has seen the best changes, myself. One thing to keep in mind
though is that 2008 does not have VBA support. If you run VB
macros, you'll likely want to hang on to 2004 (they can live
concurrently as long as Entourage 2004 doesn't touch the 2008
database file... I usually trash Entourage 2004).
Best,

Subject: [Fed-Talk] Office 2008 for Mac
Just got a copy of Office 2008 for Mac from our local DOIM.
Asked where they got it and she said it came off of the Army
Small Computer Contract or something like that. I maybe the
last person on this list to know it's available but just
thought I would let everyone know.
If it's like the new version they put on our PC's I am not
sure I want to install it. Has anyone used Office 2008 on a
Mac that could tell me if it's a complete redesign like the
new PC version?
Thanks
Bob Blankenship
