For those wanting to develop vertical applications for your
organization, Apple is working on a model so that you don't have to
make your application available to everyone:
From Macworld:
What about enterprises who want to write private, internal apps?
Schiller: "We're working on a model for enterprises for them to
distribute applications to their end users, specifically with a
program for them to target their end users. We have a model we're
building for that."
From Ars Technica:
How will private organizations distribute apps to their employees
internally? Schiller: We are working on a version of the AppStore for
enterprise that will allow corporations to distribute apps to their
end-users securely
This is also reflected in Apple's iPhone development page:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/
Standard Program $99
The Standard Program is for developers who are creating free and
commercial applications for iPone and iPod touch.
Enterprise Program $299
The Enterprise Program is for developers who are creating
proprietary, in-house applications for iPhone and iPod touch.
