I will second this plug for Hamrick's VueScan drivers. They are truly
impressive with a support list for scanners long since forgotten by
the manufacturers including Canon, HP, Microtek and others.

I'm glad it sounds like Canon got its act together for scanner
drivers. I had the same scanner, and got so frustrated with the
Canon drivers that came with it (~ 4 years ago) that I got rid of it
in disgust and swore off any Canon computer peripherals. (The stuff
that came with my Canon DLSRs is passable, but I don't depend on
it.) I replaced the Canon with an Epson scanner, their software
isn't that much better but Epson has shown a consistent commitment
to the Mac.
But let me put in a plug for Hamrick's VueScan scanner driver!
Great stuff, super tech support! Guy knows Macs so no worries about
a lack of commitment to the platform.
