I'm glad Jim mentioned the
problem he's having with Safari "kicking him out" of the Air Force
webmail site - I have the same problem with NMCI webmail. Actually, to be
technically correct, it's the NMCI site that's kicking me out - saying that access
to the site requires a security certificate that I'm not presenting. Sorry -
I'm running Parallels and Internet Explorer right now to work off my email so I
can't test Safari to get the exact error message. I do have identity
preferences set for the new NMCI web site - both for https://webmail.west.nmci.navy.mil/
and for https://webmail.west.nmci.navy.mil/exchange
(in my case). Any idea why I can make the initial connection every time but
loose the connection after some indeterminate period of time (typically 5-10
minutes)?
I saw Shawn's recent
posting about the need to continue to install the
Smart Card Services update for 10.5.5 which I guess will be available
soon.
I am running 10.5.4 and hadn't learned about this separate, iDisk-
served updater, until today. I read Fed-Talk as a digest and a lot of
Shawn's submissions have attachments that get scrubbed so I missed it
when it was announced earlier.
I just got a new CAC yesterday (CA-20 based) and without adding in a
new identity preference, I could not hit Air Force webmail. I added
the identity preference and access returned -- although after some
idle time, Safari once again kicks me out and I have to re-start Safari.
If I install the Smart Card Services update, will I be able to not
worry about needing an identity preference except for certain, but
few, web sites?
Also, based on an Apple Discussions list thread, I had previously re-
enabled the X509Anchors key chain rather than rely on System Roots.
With my old CAC, also without the services update, I could not get the
Identity Preference trick alone to allow access to Air Force web mail
until I added X509Anchors.
What are people's experiences with the Air Force portal site -- do you
need identity preferences set for this one too?
When will CA-20 be supported out of the box by Apple -- 10.5.5?
Can I remove dependence on X509Anchors now?
Thanks
Jim
