I think the best behavior is just to turn off caching or provide a
option in keychain to turn off caching.
Why was smartcard caching even implemented. Is it really that much of a
performance increase?
Middleware in Windows does the same thing with CAPI, actually. If you
have Windows box with ActivClient installed--and have the rights--you
can set it to auto-publish certs to CAPI. It does take a noticeable
length of time.
