For all drive types (USB, IDE, and SATA) on our windows boxes,
we use universal purge tool 1.5.2 on a bootable CD.
It is (which flavor of *nix with a Penguin logo) based.
Since it works on other intel boxes, logic dictates it should work on an
intel mac.
The default command is for ide drives: Upt -t IDE -d /dev/hda
The program considers SATA drives to be SCSI, so
Upt -t SCSI -d /dev/hds
Works in most cased.
If that command fails, the UPT command has a switch to search the for
all connected storage devices; then use
upt -t USB|IDE|SCSI -d /dev/hdx
where x is whatever path it finds the drive you want to wipe.

Has anybody found any tool that runs under OSX that allows this to be
run on the internal SATA drive?
What about say a Linux Boot CD with hdparam?
HDDERASE or HDAT2?
