In the case of Windows 95 apps that are developed as in-house
products, crossover seems to work surprisingly well.
The other use I see for CrossOver is for those client-server apps
pretending to be web apps... which require the (ahem) Windows client
app called "MS Internet Explorer" :-D. The practice of developing to
MS IE oddities instead of web standards is a dying practice on the
public-serving Internet, but alive and well in the federal sector.
Beyond just overcoming obstacles, CrossOver is very nice when
developing web applications and even just web plain web sites.
CrossOver's ability to run Windows browsers is an excellent way to
check for JavaScript and HTML interpretation issues without having the
5GB plus bulk of Windows in tow.
Then lastly the majority of Windows viruses, now over 200K or so, have
a hard time attacking something that is not there. Remove Windows and
remove a major attack vector from a system.
I always choose CrossOver if I can, then Parallels or VMWare if not.
Sun's Virtual Box is Interesting too.

Another big potential advantage of Crossover is not needing to
secure a
full copy of Windows just to run one or two apps.
As others have noted, the list of well-supported, current, and
useful apps
is pretty short. That stopped my investigation.

One advantage of CX over the VM utilities is that it takes up much
less
drive space than a whole installation of Windows or linux in a
virtual
environment. This is perhaps not too big an issue any more with the
cost of
large drives, but having an virtual XP and a virtual linux on a 1yr
old
laptop drive can eat up available space very quickly.
