The SCM SCR 3310 is a different reader than the SCM SCR 331 and uses
different firmware; 5.23 is the latest version for the 3310.

I'm using an Oberther card, along with an SCR 3310 with v 5.23 firmware,
no 3rd party software. No issues other than the "5 minute timeout"
problem.

This is not due to ADmitMac for CAC, but due to the firmware version in
your SCR 331. Your card reader would not work on ANY version of 10.5.x
until the firmware is updated, and 10.5.6 is installed.
The only reason some people were able to get the SCR 331 to work AFTER
10.5.0 and BEFORE 10.5.6 was by using third party drivers supporting
the Oberthur card. The Oberthur card and SCR 331 combo was not
supported by Apple software until 10.5.6 and only then with the firmware
update for the reader.
These third party drivers do not cause something to STOP working when
installing 10.5.6.

As long as you are NOT using any third-party software, like ADmitMac for
CAC, then you will be able to continue using your CAC card and reader
with no problem. But if you do use third party then upgrading to 10.5.6
will most likely make your card reader cease to exist with Oberthur ID
One v5.2 CAC card and the SCR 331 and 3310 USB CAC readers. I can verify
this on more than one computer.
