I'm also surprised we haven't heard anything new on suite B. I was excited at the performance and strength gains of ECC over "conventional" algorithms.
Most ECC optimizations are still patent-encumbered by Certicom (now
owned by RIM--the Blackberry people).[1]
That said, I know DoD transition is proceeding apace. CAC/PIV
transition is still planned out toward 2012. I also know of at least
two *very* large projects currently using or working toward ECC keys.

[1] My *personal* favorite is the patent on "point compression." The
patent is basically "Given x and the equation of a curve (y^2 = x^3 + ax
+ b), solve for y." Basically, all point compression does is replace
the (x,y) pair with x and a bit telling *which root* of y to use. USPTO
really makes me ill sometimes. (This position is in no way indicative
of any position held by my company or any sponsor my company supports.
Your mileage may vary. You must be this high to ride this ride. Keep
