Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] Windows on the Mac
No, the environment will be used to run specific pieces of software. I was thinking it might be a good idea to not allow the Windows environment to connect to the network AT ALL so I won’t have to worry about viruses, security holes or any of that other PC crap. At least that’s the plan right now, who knows how the functionality might evolve once the users are aware it’s possible.

VMware and Parallels both have software to convert desktop PC systems to images that you can use. The FDCC images also come as .VHD so you may have to convert those, this is the federal baseline that most agencies will use. I am only familiar with the VMware conversion tools for this. You should contact your group that creates the enterprise images and go from there. Do you plan on binding these VMs to the AD network or are you just using the environment to run your custom PC applications?

No, they use something called Acronis to do their imaging. Not at all familiar with it, and when I looked in the directory where they said the “image” lives, saw nothing recognizable.

Folks,
Can someone point me in the direction of any documentation that outlines how to securely configure Windows for operation on a Mac? Specifically in Parallels or VM Ware, though I think we’re going to standardize on Parallels.
Also, if anyone has any tips and tricks they can offer, I’d appreciate it. I don’t have a lot of Mac users, but they have need to occasionally run some software that’s Windows-only, and this will give me the ability to let them access that on their production machines without having to throw a clunky PC into their already limited space.
Do you guys have a standard Windows ISO image that you load your other Windows machines from? Try booting from that inside of Parallels (or whatever).
