Cisco IPSec (Native IPSec - Certified with Cisco's IPSec

Authentication:
- Machine Authentication: Shared Secret -OR- Certificate

Is it possible to specify a smart card-based certificate when using
the "Machine Authentication" option?
Under 10.6.1, my attempts to do so have resulted in a dialog stating
"No machine certificates found". Is a particular certificate key usage
required? What makes a certificate suitable for Cisco IPSec in Snow
Leopard?
Thanks,
