Title: FYI on disabling bonjour and its affect on the Final Cut Studio and Adobe Creative Suites
Mac folk,
Recently I posted an inquiry regarding –72000 and “Protection” errors, and applications in the Final Cut Studio suite reporting serial number conflicts with machines that didn’t exist, since the machines reporting the errors were not connected to a network. I tracked the problem down to a package of security settings we apply here which disable bonjour, specifically the mDNSResponder. Disabling this seems to hobble the Final Cut suite, and it has an adverse affect on applications in the Adobe CS universe as well. Mysterious crashes, freezes, unexplained errors, etc. Nothing else seems to be affected by disabling bonjour at that level, but I figured I’d post for the record since others may run into similar issues given the ubiquity of this software.
Hope this precludes anyone else from going through a similar month-long nightmare.
