The ban was only lifted 9 days ago. Each service now needs to figure
out how to implement the guidance.
When you're on NIPR or if you have Intelink-U access, check out:

The specific requirements are contained in documents on SIPR whose
links are referenced in the above document.

Dude this rumor has been rumbling around for about almost a year. I

However, to me the rumor of USB ban being lifted falls in to the
category of:
"Snoopy was not feeling well and we took him to the vet.
And, the vet said Snoopy needed to stay at a farm where he
could get more
exercise and play with the other animals on the farm..."
The farm being the dirt farm.
I hope you are right and the ban will be lifted. Although the HBSS
without DAR-data rest does not make
sense to me but what do I know.
Again, I hope you are correct.

The Navy lead for the USB issue happened to be here in San Diego
giving
a brief earlier this week. He mentioned that each Service was in the
process of taking the STRATCOM guidance and tailoring it for
Service-specific implementation. In the Navy, for example, I think he
said that thumb drives will only be allowed on systems that have Host
Based Security System (HBSS) software....so, as far as I know, that
leaves Macs out.
