I can attest to that. I am one of those folks who got NetShare when it was available on the App Store (best $9.99 I've ever spent). When I'm in a pinch and need to get internet access on my Air, I'll run Netshare. But you can practically watch the battery gauge drop while the phone is running both WiFi and, in my case, EDGE at the same time. (My wife has a 3G, and I've put Netshare on her phone but never run it. I can only imagine that the 3G tethered connection would be no better than EDGE.) In other words, you'll want the phone plugged in to external power if you plan on tethering any longer than 30 minutes at a time.
