Although I haven't upgraded to iOS4 yet, when I saw this, I decided to check out the Sync forums to see what people there were saying, since I knew there would be reports of this problem and solutions - if any - there.
On the official ford sync forum (syncmyride.com) there are a number of people saying that it either doesn't work at all, or with some things working correctly and some not. There are other people saying that everything works great for them with iOS4. Also, iOS4 seems to have fixed a few problems that were happening before, such as the ringtones from the phone not playing (they do under iOS4) and the music from the phone automatically streaming when the phone connects (it no longer does with 4, or course, that would also be true if your phone won't connect!)
This forum also offers two possible fixes - essentially "rebooting" your sync. The first suggestion is to do a reset of the system from the menus - a soft "reboot". And if that doesn't work, pull the fuse in your vehicle that is associated with the radio/Sync system, wait for about 15 seconds or so, and then put it back in - a hard "reboot". Both stink, because you lose all your settings, but....
On another, unofficial forum, there weren't nearly as many posts (fordsyncforum.com). In fact, I only saw one person posting on the issue. He gave more detailed instructions for how to fix things if the update caused your phone not to be recognized anymore:
If you are having USB issues:
1. Make sure the USB will still charge your iPhone. If it won't, then find the fuse that controls your Sync and remove it for a couple of minutes and plug it back in.
2. If your phone then charges, turn off your phone while it is plugged in to the usb and your radio is on AUX
3. Turn your phone back on and Sync should update your songs and playlists and give you back control of your phone through the USB.
If you're having Bluetooth issues do a master reset from the menu in your Sync radio and repair your Bluetooth and it should resolve all the bugs from the iPhone update.
Please take all these instructions for what they are - I haven't tested any of them out, as I haven't upgraded yet; I am just passing this on to help out those of you who have. Though I may brave it and just figure I'll figure it out along the way.
Hope this helps!
Kim
