I wonder if the iPad dock-to-USB adapter will work on an iPhone too?

So I've been having a rough time the last couple of weeks, I haven't slept well and I'm hungry and it's the end of the day for me. All of which explains this crazy thought: Why can't an Iphone have a USB port instead of the charging slot it has now? Or why can't it be extended that itty bitty more in length to do it?
Okay. I'm going home. But just thought I'd give you something crazy to think about when you go to bed. Call it a bachelor's revenge. >;o)

I expect the next version of the iPhone (or perhaps the one after) will have a mini- or micro- USB connector in addition to the standard iPod dock. I saw some country passed a law requiring all phones migrate to a standard USB charging connector.
Lots of reasons that wasn't what Apple started with. There is a lot of advantage to having a huge market share of accessories that only work with your devices. Perhaps Android is great, but I already have half a dozen docks, chargers, and connectors that work with the family iPods that I can't use with Android. Perhaps I should get another iPhone?
Had Apple gone to USB, not only would they lose the advantage, but they wouldn't be backward compatible with their own devices. The dock does a lot more than charge, too, of course. Audio, video, device control...
