Apple just announced the release of 10.6.3 and 10.6.3 server, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1018
. With these updates, the proper handling of split certificates, like
those used by some Entrust sites (DOE), is now performed properly. The
Entrust DAP server can be configured to provide certificates for Apple
Mail without the need to install certificates in the keychain. The
testing was done using Entrust's current Secure Desktop for Mac
client, ver 8.01.
10.6.1 provided a fix for accessing directories with certificates but
it wasn't until 10.6.3 that the use of split certificates was
completely fixed. There is some directory attribute configuration
necessary to get Directory Access to work with the typical Entrust DAP
server configuration but it does work. DOE Entrust users should
contact their Entrust site manager for configuration instructions.
I asked and Apple will not be providing fixes to 10.5.
