Marty,
I believe the 2 certificate issue was fixed with 10.6.3 (although my 10.6.3
Mac Mail has become almost unusable since then for other reasons - separate
post elsewhere).
As people have alluded to on this list previously, there is/was an issue
with Mac Mail about the proper ordering of the 2 certificates. Prior to
10.6.3, I used the following link to "fix" the certificate issue.

As for the ECA SmartCard from ORC, do you use the SmartCard for logon
purposes, or just email? Im sure they told you what to do with the
ActivClient software and did you just try it without it to see what
happened? Then what purpose does ActivClient provide?
