You can lock connections to the APE down by Mac Address, which is annoying at first, but that might help a bit.
But, an attacker that knows what he is doing can crack your WEP, and clone one of the mac addresses, and connect to the APE. If you run some IPSEC encryption inside of the wireless connection, or perhaps connect to a VPN, you can secure it more that way.
