Doug,
I'm not seeing anything in the website that says what putting a Mac into FIPS mode actually does. I also haven't found anything that says what impact not putting it into FIPS has on the current operation of an un-FIPS Mac. Is FIPS mode required for FileVault and Disk Utility encryption to actually be compliant or were they already compliant and this application suite simply confirms it? The manual only talks about the encryption algorithms so I assume anything that uses these would be compliant but would like to know when they become compliant so I can forward this information to our DAA.
I am running WinMagic's SecureDoc for Mac to manage a Seagate SED. I'm seeing the tools run at startup. Do the tools affect the operation of the boot.ini file? If so, has anyone contacted the only Mac SED management vendor to test them?
